Kiev-born Kateryna Shalkina studied at the Kiev State Ballet School till she joined the National Opera of Ukraine in 2000, first as an apprentice and then dancing as a soloist in Swan Lake, Coppelia, and Nutcracker, amongst others. Eagerly wanting to study other techniques, she accepted a scholarship at Bejart’s school, Rudra, in Lausanne, Switzerland, and then, in 2003, she was invited by the legendary master to join his company, Bejart Ballet Lausanne, for 15 years.
 

A year later, she danced the leading and soloist roles in the Bejart repertory “Rite of the Spring (the Chosen One)”, “Magic Flute”, “Serait-ce la Mort”, “Bhakti”, “Brel et Barbara”, “Greek Dances”, “Webern Opus V”, "Le Concours” (Ada), “Ce que l’Amour m’a dit”, “Parsifal Pd2”, “Sonate a Trois”, ”Dialogue de l ombre double”, “Ballet For a Life”, ”Dionysos (suite), ”Cantate 51", ”Light”, "9 Symphony" and many others. Creations such as “L’art d’etre grand-pere”, "l `Amour et la Danse" (Juliet) creation 2005, ”Zaratoustra" (Isolde/Dou-Dou) creation 2006, Bejart’s final work “Le tour du monde en 80 minutes”, "Gil Roman's Aria”, “Casino des Esprits”, “Syncope”, ”Anima Blues", Tony Fabre "Empreintes", "Joost Vrouenraets".

She received the "Etoile" prize at the international ballet gala "Les étoiles de Ballet 2000" in Cannes in 2006. 

 

In 2014, she was invited by Kader Belarbie to dance La Belle Esclave in his new creation "Le Corsaire" with the Ballet du Capitole in Toulouse.
 

She has performed world-wide with the Bejart Ballet Lausanne, including at the Paris Opera, La Scala di Milano, Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo, Japan, the Bolshoi and Marinsky theaters, and on many major stages.

Kateryna has been a guest artist in demand at the Theatre des Champs-Elysees (Stars of the 21st Century-Paris, Stockholm with Johann Kobborg (Tag Andersen Gala), The Giants of the Dance (Mexico City), Gianni Versace Homage (Milano, La Scala), the Sun Tuscany Festival (with ABT’s Irina Dvorovenko and Maksim Belotserkovsky), Italy with Roberto Bolle and Friends, Les etoiles pour le Japon 2011 in Paris, Gala de Buenos Aires 2012 and 2018, and the World Ballet Festival in Tokyo 2013.

In 2016, she received another prize from "Ballet 2000" for having made an outstanding contribution to dance with major international companies.
 

In 2017, she created ”Kovcheg” for a GogolFest in Kiev, Ukraine, with Oscar Chacon and the famous Vladislav Troitskiy.
 

In December 2017, she joined the Ballet du Capitole de Toulouse as a soloist. Since she danced Kader Belarbie "Nutckracker", 8 Haute Surveillante-Reine de Araignes-Reine de Flocons, “Giselle” (Myrtha, “2 Willis”), “Don Quixote” Mercedes, Queen of the Driads, Davide Bombana "Liaison Dangereuse" (Cecile de Volanges), Mauro Bigonzetti "Cantata", Rolan Petit "Les Forains" (La Belle Endormie), "Carmen" (Carmen), R. Noureev "Swan Lake" (Black Swan pas de trois), "La Bayadere" 3 act Les Ombres (3 Shade), and D. Dawson “A Million Kisses to My Skin”.
 

You can see her dance on mezzo-tv in “Light”, “Rite of the Spring” by Bejart, "Syncope" by G. Roman, and a DVD releases as "L'amour et la dance”, “Dancing Bethoveen”, “Bejart Ballet China Tour”, “Bejart Ballet in Paris Opera documentary by Incredible Arantxa Aguire. In 2019 come out a dvd Queen +Bejart. "Ballet for a life".
 

After her 20-year international career as a principal dancer today, she became a freelance dancer, ballet teacher, and founder of a new program called PHP (Programme de Haute Performance) Ballet Intensive for pre-professional ballet students in Switzerland with her husband, Oscar Chacon.

In 2020, they create their first world creation, The Life of Chopin and George Sand, in Switzerland.
