Oscar Chacon
Principal dancer & teacher
Oscar comes from Cali, Colombia, and was trained by Gloria Castro Martinez at the Colombian Institute of Classical Ballet.
He joined the École-Atelier Rudra Béjart and Workshop in 2003. That same year, he was invited by Maurice Béjart to dance at the 30th anniversary gala of John Neumeier's Hamburg Ballet.
In 2004, he became a member of the Béjart Ballet Lausanne.
During twelve seasons, he performed the main roles of Maurice Béjart's repertoire, such as "The Rite of Spring", "The Ninth Symphony", "Zarathustra", and "Le Chant de la Dance." He also performed in Gil Roman's creations "Syncope", "Là où sont les oiseaux" and "Anima Blues," as well as in productions by guest choreographer Tony Fabre "Ismaël".
He performed as a guest artist for the Stuttgart Ballet, the Gala of La Scala in Milan, the Bolshoi Theatre for the Ave Maya Gala, the Tribute to Gianni Versace (Milan), the World Ballet Festival (Tokyo), and the Nureyev Gala.
In 2016, he received an award from Ballet 2000 at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, recognizing dancers who worked with the most important international dance companies. Later that year, he was invited by Tamara Rojo to the English National Ballet, where guest choreographer Akram Khan gave him the role of Hilarion in Giselle.
In 2018, he worked on the revival of the solo L'Effleuré by choreographer Anabelle Lopez Ochoa of the Dutch National Opera.
Being a choreographer for the 2018 GOGOL’s festival and the theater company TROITSKY in Kiev, Ukraine. Work as a member of the FINBA 2018.
In 2019, Oscar took over the artistic direction of the Colombian Ballet Company and the National Ballet School in Cali, Colombia, for one year. Also In 2019, he was the artistic director of the XIX World International Festival of Salsa, creating a choreography in contemporary dance style for more than 600 dancers.
In 2021, he was invited by Opera de Lausanne and Marina Viotti to create the opera show "Love has no Bordes" , and other projects.
A creation inspired by the memories of the last days of Frederick Chopin and George Sand, "L’amour en Note Bleu" premiered in Switzertland.
In 2022, he participated in a charity gala in support of Ukraine organized by lana Salenko, a dancer from the Staatsballett Berlin. At the event, he danced a pas de deux by Maurice Béjart, Liebe und Tod. That same year, he created with Kateryna Shalkina their own program, PHP (Programme de Haute Performance), Ballet Intensive, for young pre-professional dancers.
In 2023, Oscar was called to return to his alma mater, Béjart Ballet Lausanne.
